Making great portfolio for beginner UX designer of mobile app on Upwork(oDesk) for 5 min

There is a modern specialty user experience (UX). People can design interface for web sites, desktop app and mobile app. Although these fields look very similar, but there are some differences.

Here are small examples how you can create interesting portfolio in this sphere if you still do not have real projects.

Please note that absent of real projects does not mean that you are not talented UX designer.

Sometime you need just a small movement to become a famous, so please consider these examples as some kind of stimulus to your goal.

Note: do not forget to update your portfolio as soon as you get real projects.

Option 1: Use existing mobile app and draw sketches for the portfolio

Steps:

  1. Go to App Store or Google Play depending what mobile device do you use;
  2. Search apps that are free and relate to some of categories 'booking', 'reservations', 'hotels', 'tickets';
  3. Install one or two of them on your device;
  4. Take paper and pencil and make sketches of two or three screens of them;
  5. Make a photo;
  6. Add these photos into your portfolio

Option 2: Draw your sketches based on existing mobile apps for the portfolio

Steps:

  1. Open Google Images and type 'mobile app sketch mockup';
  2. Choose two or three images;
  3. Redraw these mockups on a paper, you can change some items;
  4. Make photos of your work and add them into the portfolio.

Option 3: Use prototyping tools to create mockups for your portfolio

This option is for those who use Draw.io (popular and free), Axure (the best one, but trial), Balsamiq or Sketch.

Steps:

  1. Go to App Store or Google Play depending what mobile device do you use;
  2. Search apps that are free and relate to some of categories 'booking', 'reservations', 'hotels', 'tickets';
  3. Install one or two of them on your device;
  4. Redraw two or three app screens using the tools above;
  5. Add screens into your portfolio;
